The President presents Gallantry Award to Scout Jaisham

Gallantry Award Ceremony, 23rd January 2008

The President of the Republic of Maldives and Chief Scout His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom presented the Gallantry Gold Award “Gold Crescent” to Scout Mohamed Jaisham Ibrahim. The Award was presented to him last night at a special ceremony held at Ghiyaasuddin School.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that the Scouting Movement and the people of the Maldives were proud of Jaisham.  He noted that Jaisham’s bravery proved the effectiveness of the skills training that he had received through Scouting.  He also said that Jaisham had earned himself the reputation as a model Boy Scout in the Maldives and the World over.  He also said that Jaisham’s action had earned global high praise for the Maldives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohamed Jaisham Ibrahim thanked the President and Chief Scout of Maldives for the high priority that the Government attaches to promoting Scouting in the country.

Scout Mohamed Jaisham has been selected for the APR Gallantry Award too and he will be receiving the Award in a Regional Scout Event.

In the Scouting history of Maldives, this is the 2nd time that a Gallantry Award has been given. The first one, a “Silver Crescent” was awarded to Scouter Ahmed Shiran for removing a bullet and giving first aid to an injured person during the coup attempt of 3rd November 1988.

Scout Saves President From Assassination

President of the Republic of Maldives and Chief Scout His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom escaped attempted assassination thanks to a teenage Boy Scout who wrestled back a knife-wielding attacker.

The President, who was unharmed in the incident, paid tribute to Scout Mohamed Jaisham, who was wearing his green Scout uniform with scarf and woggle at the time. The Scout's hand was badly wounded and he has been brought to Male ’, the Capital of Maldives for treatments.

After returning from his trip, The President visited Mohamed Jaisham, who is currently being treated at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. He wished Jaisham a full and speedy recovery and expressed sympathy to the family.

The attack took place on Tuesday 8th January 2008, at Haa Alifu Atoll Hoarafushi in the North of Maldives.

Scouts and a lot of well wishers including Ministers, Government officials and the Media have been visiting Jaisham.

APR Chairman has sent a congratulatory letter to Scout Jaisham.
As we understand, he has been nominated for the Gallantry Award of The Scout Association of Maldives.

Award for Outstanding Public Service

Chief Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Ali Maniku accepting the award of recognition for outstanding service in the field of community work.

The Scout Association of Maldives have been given the award for outstanding public service. The award was given at the special function held on 18th November 2007 to mark the Republic Day. The award for outstanding public service is given every year by the government for individuals and organisations selected by the cabinet. 31 individuals and 12 organisations were presented with awards of recognition for outstanding service to the public in this year’s function.

The award was presented to The Scout Association of Maldives by the President of the Republic of Maldives and Chief Scout His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.

 

 
50th JOTA and 11th JOTI

The 50th JOTA theme: "AROUND THE WORLD IN 50 HRS"

Every year the 3rd weekend of October is marked as JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) JOTI (Jamboree On The Internet) by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

This is the largest annual WOSM event in which about 500,000 Scouts and Guides from all over the World make contacts with each other by means of Amateur Radio (JOTA) and Internet techniques (JOTI).

Like the previous years we, The Scout Association of Maldives will be taking part in this event. This year the event will run from 19 th – 21st October 2007, at Alimas Maalam, Alimas Kaanivaa. Our Call Sign: 8Q7SJ

APR Rover Peace Baton launched in Maldives

Inauguration Ceremony - Thursday, 7 th September 2006.

The Rover Peace Baton was launched by His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives and the Chief Scout, on the request of the President of the Maldives Scout Council, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr. Mahmood Shougee.

“Promoting peace, harmony and national solidarity must be among the key objectives of the scouts of the Maldives ” says President Gayoom, the Chief Scout of the Maldives .

In his speech, the President of the Maldives Scout Council, Dr. Mahmood Shougee assured the President that the Torch would be carried across the atolls in a spirit of friendship and with a common goal of promoting peace in the Maldives .

Speaking at the function, the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association, Mr. Ahmed Ali Maniku thanked the President for launching the Peace Torch and said that the President's involvement in this endeavour personified his commitment to promoting a peaceful society in the country.

The National Public Relations Commissioner of the Scouts Association, Mr. Ibrahim Zameer briefed the President on the route that the Torch would be carried across the country.
