APR Rover Peace Baton launched in Maldives
 
 

Inauguration Ceremony - Thursday, 7 th September 2006.

The Rover Peace Baton was launched by His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives and the Chief Scout, on the request of the President of the Maldives Scout Council, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr. Mahmood Shougee.

“Promoting peace, harmony and national solidarity must be among the key objectives of the scouts of the Maldives ” says President Gayoom, the Chief Scout of the Maldives.

In his speech, the President of the Maldives Scout Council, Dr. Mahmood Shougee assured the President that the Torch would be carried across the atolls in a spirit of friendship and with a common goal of promoting peace in the Maldives.

Speaking at the function, the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association, Mr. Ahmed Ali Maniku thanked the President for launching the Peace Torch and said that the President's involvement in this endeavour personified his commitment to promoting a peaceful society in the country.

The National Public Relations Commissioner of the Scouts Association, Mr. Ibrahim Zameer briefed the President on the route that the Torch would be carried across the country.
